Each year the Seymour Group supports local charities chosen by the staff across the Group.
In addition to direct contributions from guests, fundraising efforts take many forms, from the sales of our centenary teddy bears to contributions from our Seymour Hotels range of house wines. Local artist Ian Rolls was also commissioned to paint a number of our most iconic venues with a percentage of the sales going to the charities.
This year we are very proud to be supporting the following very worthy local charities and we look forward to raising as much money as possible throughout the year.
Mind Jersey
Mind Jersey is an independent local charity that provides support to people living with mental illness. Our vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all, and that treats people with experience of mental illness fairly, positively and with respect.
Although affiliated with Mind in the UK, Mind Jersey retains its independence, both financially and operationally. All money raised by Mind Jersey stays in Jersey for the benefit of Island residents.
Our affiliation ensures that we meet Mind’s quality standards of governance and service delivery, follow best practice models of involving local people in their community – people who have had experience of mental illness – and provide good quality services.
Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA)
Our Mission Statement: “Prevent Cruelty, Promote Knowledge, And Provide For The Aged, Sick, Lost And Unwanted Animals In Jersey”
The Jersey Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) was founded in 1868 with the intention of attempting to change public attitudes towards animals.
The Jersey Animals’ Shelter itself was founded in 1913 by Miss Frances Elizabeth Wilson, who was appalled by the number of domestic animals found washed up on the Island’s beaches, having been drowned by owners unable to care for them.
In 1925, the JSPCA formed a Committee to assist Miss Wilson in her work and in 1930, the Society purchased the present property on St Saviours Road. In 1936, the JSPCA and Jersey Animals’ Shelter amalgamated. This was a lifelong wish of Miss Wilson and took place shortly before her death.
The original building was used and worked from for over 80 years before the new building was erected in 2012 to the rear of the original property.
The JSPCA is a licensed animal sanctuary and we follow the Jersey Code of Practice for Welfare of Animals in Sanctuaries to ensure that we adhere to the highest standards of care for both domestic animals and wildlife.
Jersey Cancer Relief
Jersey Cancer Relief came into being in 1968, initially as the Jersey branch of the national campaign, when it was found that some cancer patients and their families were finding it difficult to cope financially because of their illness.
It was incorporated as a Jersey charity in November 1973. Since then, due to generous donations and our own fundraising efforts, it has been possible to offer assistance to many Islanders.
We are honoured to have Dr Karen Kyd as our Patron.
