The Gardens of Greenhills

A world of flora and artistry came to life in London this week, as the annual Royal Chelsea Flower Show opened it gates to the public. For some the event signifies the beginning of the summer, drawing crowds of green-fingered gardeners and enthusiasts from all over the world to experience the very best of horticulture and cultivation.

A beautiful Jersey garden

In the rural heart of Jersey, our very own green-fingered gardener Natalie is in charge of the gardens at Greenhills County House Hotel.

Natalie's wealth of knowledge and passion for plants is clear to see at Greenhills. She seasonally replants the many pots, urns and beds to suit the changing conditions. Each season is a little different to the previous year, making Greenhills' gardens feel fresh and rejuvenated each time you visit.

Charming and vibrant

Being sympathetic to the natural surroundings is important to Natalie's approach, and considering the conditions is vital when it comes to planting. Bordered by the woodlands of St Peter's Valley, the naturally shady environment sets the overall tone of the Greenhills garden, with an abundance of ferns creating a sense of unity with the surrounding valley.

Colour from flora brings vibrance and charm throughout, especially in the shadier spots around the grounds. At this time of year, Natalie loves the dramatic display of the Allium 'Globemaster' which can be seen around the poolside borders. It's a plant that always makes an impression and gets people talking with it's huge purple head (hence the name) and ability to grow over a metre in height!
