Meditation for beginners
Have you ever considered giving meditation a try? Perhaps you’ve heard about the benefits of this extremely simple technique, or just wondered what a mindfulness class would be like?
We have a great opportunity at the Aquadome for members to give meditation a try, as we will be running two tester classes in February and March.
What is meditation?
Meditation is the act of mindfulness, taking some time out from our busy lives to allow the mind to unwind, letting go of the cycle of thoughts that often prevent us from really thinking clearly. You can think of meditation as an exercise for your mind, in the same way as running or lifting weights helps to strengthen your body.
Why should I try it?
Research has shown that meditation can have both physiological and psychological effects. Some of the psychological, emotional, and health benefits of meditation include:
- Increased self-awareness
- Better stress management skills
- Improved emotional well-being
- Better management of symptoms of conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, sleep disorders, pain issues and high blood pressure
- Improvement in working memory and fluid intelligence
- Changes in different aspects of attention
To really understand how meditation can help you, we recommend giving it a try for yourself!
