Happy Liberation Day!
On May 9th 1945, British soldiers emerged onto the balcony of the Pomme d'Or and hoisted the Union Jack up the flagpole, bringing to an end five years of German occupation. Liberation Day has since become the Island's (and our hotel's) most iconic historical moment, celebrated proudly and passionately each year.
The main part of tomorrow's festivities will take place in the same spot where Islanders gathered to greet their liberators and celebrate their freedom all those years ago.
Weighbridge Place will play host to 1940s style singing and dancing, local food stalls, historical war footage and speeches from Islanders who endured the hardships.
Liberation Day is a unique celebration not to be missed by locals and tourists alike. Live music includes:
12:15pm - 1pm
Optimistic Voices 7 Piece Band: 1940’s themed Trio with Band
1.10pm - 1.25pm
Jersey Hoppers: 1940’s dance display piece
1.35pm - 2.10pm
The Word on the Street: 10 piece brass and percussion funk band
2.20pm - 2.50pm
Optimistic Voices Trio
3.20pm - 4pm
Retro Gramophone: 5 piece Jazz Band. Vocals: Jenny McCarthy
4.10pm - 4.30pm
Jersey Hoppers: public participation. ‘Learn to Lindy.’
4.45pm - 5.30pm
Jersey Big Band: Jazz/Swing Band with singers
5.15pm - 5.30pm

The day is a rare opportunity to reflect on our island's history, and we are extremely proud that our hotel is at the heart of these celebrations.
However you choose to enjoy Jersey's national holiday, The Pomme d'Or staff would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy day Liberation Day!
