Meet Norbert, our new General Manager
Keeping our busy, central St Helier hotel running smoothly takes the coordinated effort of more than 80 dedicated team members. Since the Seymour family purchased the hotel in 1930, the Pomme d'Or team has strived to offer its guests an unbeatable level of customer service.
Maintaining these high standards across the whole team is the job of our newly hired General Manager, Norbert Stump. This isn't the first time Seymour Hotels have hired Norbert, but we're hoping it'll be the last time we have to persuade him to come back!
Continue reading if you'd like to learn more about how Norbert went from an apprentice hotel administrator in Düsseldorf to General Manager of Jersey's most famous hotel.
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Germany, near Cologne. After I finished school and the army, I started my apprenticeship as a hotel administrator in Düsseldorf.
Where did you sharpen your hospitality skills?
Once I had my degree, improving my English was my priority. I decided to work in London and started as a waiter at the Hilton on Park Lane.
Since then I've worked and in lived in South Africa, Singapore, Croatia, the north of England, Guernsey and Jersey. The highlights of my career so far include the legendary Raffles Hotel in Singapore; Buitenverwachting, one of the finest restaurants in Cape Town; and Coniston, a country house hotel in North Yorkshire.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
Interacting with our amazing team and meeting all our great guests in the lobby and restaurant.
How long have you lived in Jersey?
This is the second time I've settled here. I worked at the Merton Hotel for four years, from 2010 to 2014, and returned to Jersey at the start of 2019.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I'm not at the hotel, I spend some time with my family - we take long walks around the island’s beautiful beaches. If I get a minute to myself I go jogging.
What are you recommendations for visitors to Jersey and the Pomme d’Or?
The food on the island is incredible and there are many fantastic dining options to try.
I love driving out to St Ouen’s Bay for a long beach walk and a late lunch at The Watersplash. On a Friday night there is no better place than our Harbour Room for the famous seafood buffet - delicious food and great value.
