This year is a significant milestone in the history of Seymour Hotels as we celebrate 100 years of successful business. We are delighted to share this momentous occasion with you, our valued guest and reader. Across this centenary website our story unfolds to give you a flavour of the character, resilience and entrepreneurialism of the Seymour family who have been at the helm of our successful business for the past 100 years.
A romantic start
Seymour Hotels began when George and Ada Seymour opened the doors to the Merton Guesthouse in Halkett Place in 1920. Having fallen in love with Jersey whilst honeymooning in the island, George and Ada returned with a vision to provide holidays full of happy memories for many other visitors. Over time, both the business and family grew, and Seymour Hotels is now a significant contributor to our Island’s hospitality industry.
A family business
Today, Seymour Hotels of Jersey is the largest and longest established hotel group in the Channel Islands and remains in private ownership. With an exciting portfolio of three hotels and self-catering apartments offering accommodation for over 1000 visitors every night, as well as an iconic beachfront bar & diner, the Seymour Group employs more than 350 members of staff during the peak summer months.
Five generations of Seymours
Five generations of Seymours have been responsible for running the family business, with three generations still actively involved today. At Seymour Hotels, our aim is for anyone who walks through our doors to have the best possible experience and, for the duration of their stay, to become part of the Seymour Hotels family. Over 100 years, we have made many friends and it is a privilege to welcome so many back year after year. We have shared some of their stories here with you too: from tales of new friendships and teapot souvenirs, to how our hotels have provided inspiration for new bathrooms as well as a magical post-WW2 honeymoon!
